Abstract

Research on the capacity of young individuals to cope with and respond to the impacts of climate change has been relatively limited. With the evident effects of climate change arising today, it is crucial to acknowledge their potential to play a significant role in combating this complex issue. The study was conducted to explore students’ perspectives on climate change and understand the reason behind their views by utilizing a basic qualitative research design. Likewise, a purposive sampling technique was used to select seven participants from the Grade 10 Bacolod Trinity Christian School students, who were then interviewed individually. Where some participants were asked to do a follow-up interview to collect additional data. When all interviews were completed, the information from each interview was attained, where the data was then transcribed and gathered to find similarities between each participant’s answers. Researchers then used the Qualitative Data Analysis Method, putting the relevant data they collected into codes, categories, and concepts, enabling them to clearly and concisely recognize the findings towards the answers to the study’s questions. The output of the findings show that students believe that (1) the impacts of climate change are becoming more evident, (2) government programs toward climate change should be improved, (3) improper practices that affect the climate should be reduced, (4) social media can be utilized to raise climate change awareness, (5) everyone should engage and participate in campaigns and projects towards helping climate change, and (6) education and raising awareness regarding climate change should be highlighted. Among the data gathered, parallels can be found among the different participants despite being that each view was personal to the participant. Each theme was then evaluated and discussed thoroughly to give a clear insight into the recommendations and conclusion of the study.
